Assisi and Orvieto

Assisi, one of the most famous towns in Italy, UNESCO World Heritage Site, land of one of the most important saints in the history of Christianity, Saint Francis, Patron Saint of Italy. Assisi is a wonderful village, favourite destination of pilgrims who want to know the places where St. Francis lived. Orvieto has an artistic and cultural heritage among the richest in Umbria. An example is the Duomo with a Gothic façade that dominates the entire village with mosaics and bas-reliefs.

The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli was built by Pio V, to recognize the importance of the Franciscan order and to welcome pilgrims, who still come to visit the Basilica for the Indulgence of Forgiveness desired by St. Francis. Inside there is the Porziuncola, the chapel where Francis of Assisi gathered in prayer, and for this reasons is recognised as center of Franciscan spirituality. Giorgio, where, until 1230, the remains of St. Francis were preserved Papal Basilica and Sacred Convent of St. Francis of Assisi dedicated to St. Francis, the splendid Basilica is one of the emblems of Christianity. Located on mount Subasio from where it dominates the entire valley, it is a strong attraction for millions of faithful. The Basilica also has great artistic depth, inside it you can admire works by authors such as Giotto and Cimabue.

The city rises on a tufa cliff and is a real gem, it has an artistic and cultural heritage among the richest in Umbria. The Duomo, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, with a shining façade of windows, mosaics and sculptures, dominates the entire village. Inside you can admire real masterpieces of Italian painters, such as the cycle of frescoes depicting themes related to the Last Judgment of the painter Luca Signorelli. You can immerse yourself in the beauties of Orvieto and admire the many churches scattered around the center.
