the prosecco hills

The Prosecco hills enclose a large part of the Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG production area. This area boasts a sparkling wine technique that is schooled and a heroic viticulture, which has been able to shape the harsh soils to make them suitable for the cultivation of the vine. Worked by man since the Middle Ages, over the centuries the hills have taken on spectacular geometries and a curious checkerboard appearance. In these lands, beauty and taste blend masterfully.

Le colline del prosecco 1

We will take you to discover villages surrounded by terraces and vineyards. Along the Prosecco Road there is the first wine tourism itinerary born in Italy: 90 kilometers to travel by car, on foot or by bicycle, between a glass of wine and a tasting of local cheeses or cured meats. The first stop will be Col San Martino to visit the company "Graziano Merotto", one of the leaders among prosecco producers. The company is located in the heart of the production area of Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore. The headquarters and the winery are surrounded by the Glera’s hilly vineyards to testify the history of the company that has always been dedicated to viticulture. The history of Graziano Merotto starts from afar, when, in the seventies, among the pioneers of quality, he decided to get the best from the slopes of these hills having as main objectives respecting the "Earth", the care of the raw material and the search for a high quality.

For lunch we will move to Miane at the restaurant "da Gigetto", where the reception creates an authentic atmosphere. You can enjoy dishes from the local gastronomic tradition, as much as the best the territory can offer. After lunch you will visit the Bortolomiol winery (one of the first bottling companies) in Valdobbiadene . After the visit to the winery and a brief introduction to the company philosophy, we will guide you in a tasting of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. Leaving the cellar you will head to Follina where you will visit the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria, a former Cistercian monastery, now home of  the parish of Follina, in province of Treviso. It has the title of basilica minore.

Final toast at the Retro Caffe next to the abbey
